Interview with Brett Poirier ( @BrettNBA )

SoloTriples: Welcome to Solo Triples Brett, it's an honor have this interview with you. To start the interview, I like to ask you about yourself. Why be journalist?
Brett Poirier: Well, picking a career is a tough decision, but there was something about the media that intrigued me. I always wanted to be on TV and talk on the radio, a lot of jobs you don't get that opportunity.

SoloTriples: In this picture, we can see a younger Brett with Raptors T-Shirt. What about this? It's your favorite team or it's only a preference because is canadian like you?
Brett Poirier:  I've been a Raptors fan for about ten years, quite hardcore I should say. I watch every game they play and have decorated my room from top to bottom with Raptors gear. I try to be non-bias when I'm working but it's a challenge when I love one team so much!

SoloTriples: Let's talk about NBA. In your opinion, what three teams are more favourites to get the championship?
Brett Poirier: Miami will likely win again, they only lost Mike Miller and gained Greg Oden. Each game they play together, the big 3 becomes morefamiliar with each other.
OKC has a good chance of making it to the Finals, with Westbrook healthy their the best in the West.
I like what the Clippers did this offseason, their bench got better and they don't have tot worry about Paul leaving.

SoloTriples: And now, in the same line, what three players are more favourites to get de MVP this season?
Brett Poirier:  It's gotta be LeBron, he only gets better. He's still in his prime and always stays healthy. His shooting improved and most importantly his shot selection got better, unless he gets injured, he's winning MVP.
Derrick Rose did beat LeBron for MVP a few years ago, if he comes back healthy, he has a chance.
Kevin Durant would have won twice if LeBron didn't exists. He does it all for his team but will need more to win.

SoloTriples: "Rose returns", it's the sensation of this summer, at least, in twitter. What do you expect? Can return at his high level?
Brett Poirier: When he steps back on the court, it will be HUGE. He's the best PG in the league and I'm expected him to get back to form in no time.

SoloTriples: I think the Eastern Conference this year will be much hard than other years. Do you think the same?
Brett Poirier: Yeah, it will be. The1-5 spots will be tough to crack with MIA, IND, CHI, NYK, BRK. Cleveland,Detroit and Washington are all improved too.

SoloTriples: What do you think about the project of Brooklyn Nets, it's a once chance shoot? They have really options?
Brett Poirier: I like it, you have a good mix of talent and wisdom, but I don't like their age. Very injury prone and could run into trouble with injuries.

SoloTriples: And what about Raptors? Have to be an objective reach the Playoffs? It will be a disaster if they fail?
Brett Poirier: I don't know if playoffs are the goal, this is the one year that doing bad really isn't so bad. The draft next year is SOOOOO good, teams would be very wise to tank.

SoloTriples: Like I said before, you are canadian, so i feel an obligation to ask you about the improvement of canadians players. I'm talking about the first canadian number one of NBA Draft, Anthony Bennett, the new Celtics pivot, Kelly Olynyk, about the future NBA star, Andrew Wiggins, what can you say about these players, and about this improvement?
Brett Poirier: Canada basketball is on the rise, there's no doubt about that. Andrew Wiggins is a future superstar and Anthony Bennett isn't far behind.  Tristan Thompson and Andrew Nicholson are both great big men that give Canada great front court depth in the future. Canada will no doubt have the best front court in 2020, if the back court can improve they will be dangerous.

SoloTriples: About Popovich-Stern affaire. Do you think the real reason was to give rest to big three or do you think the reason was that Spurs are not as important as big cities in NBA, then Stern favors marketing against sport?
Brett Poirier: There's defiantly a legitimate argument that the NBA favors big markets. I don't agree that the Spurs got fined for resting players, but, I also don't agree that they rested players. It's the fans that lose when stars are out, not the league.

SoloTriples: Now, to end the interview, some short questions about NBA 2013/14...
